Former Interim Governor of the Bank of Spain

Margarita Delgado served as Deputy Governor of the Banco de Espana from 2018 to 2024. During this period, she was a member of the Supervisory Board of the European Central Bank (ECB). She also held the position of Chair of the Spanish Deposit Guarantee Scheme, served as Vice Chair of the FROB (the Spanish resolution authority), and was a board member of the CNMV, which is the Spanish financial markets authority. In addition, she participated as a member of the Network for Greening the Financial Sector.

Ms. Delgado chaired the steering committee and was a member of the Spanish Macroprudential Authority. She also served on various international financial system committees at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and the Financial Stability Board (FSB). Notably, she co-chaired the Regional Contact Group for Europe at the FSB.

Earlier in her career, Margarita Delgado was Deputy Director General of Supervision at the ECB’s Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), where she was responsible for the direct supervision of the largest and most complex institutions in the euro area. She also held the role of Director of the Department of Supervision, among other assignments, at the Banco de Espana.
Ms. Delgado holds a Master’s degree in Economics and Business Administration from Madrid Complutense University. After completing her studies, she passed the Inspector – grade “A” public examination at the Banco de Espana and became a Chartered Accountant. She has also contributed to academia as an associate lecturer in Finance at Madrid Complutense University.

Currently, Margarita Delgado collaborates with IESE Business School and other institutions, focusing on finance and banking.
